World animal day

Today is world animal day!! I Always tought that this was a day that was made up to get some more sales for animals treats.
But I came across a newsfeed, and it said it was the dying- or name day (that was not really clear)  of the holy Saint Fransicus van Assisi. As it goes in the story, he died on the evening of october 3th, but in the time he was living the date didn't change at 00:00 o'clock, but the day changed at the moment it became dark outside, that made his dying day october 4th. Well that was someting I didn't know.

Saint Franciscus was being well know for many things, but i'm not really a religious person so I can't tell much of that. I only know that he was  very fond of animals and he made sure they were ok.
There are also legends that he could talk to birds.

No wonder he was made the Holy Saint of the animals.

Now so many many years later, a lot op people celebrate world animal day, but I don't know how many people know of Saint Fransiscus.

Sweet dogstory

Just a few days ago I finished this sweet little dogbook called Girl by Gerald Green.
I do have this book in my own language where it is titles "De oude man en de hond".

This book was standing in my bookcase for a very long time, but because of study I didn't have the time to read a ordinary book. So now I have all the time to read and this was one of the first ones I choose from my huge collection.

The story is pretty simple, an old man called Riddle has his dog Girl and he claimes that she knows more then 4000 words, he goes around with his dogs on carnivals and he gets noticed to be in a tv program.
I won't spoil the story you must read it for yourselve.

The book is only 70 pages thick and has a hardcover with a dustjacket. Mine is not in a superb condition, but that is because it is very old ( I think publishing is in 1977)
ISBN 13: 9780385116503

It still in available online and it is not an expensive book.
I love dogstories and I bet this will be a great childer…

Passed my exam

The reason for my long absence on this blog, well it is pretty simple. This past year I did a study about Canine Knowledge, in the Netherlands it is called Kynologische Kennis 1 or KK1, 1 standing for part 1 because there is a part 2.

In the begining  I tought it wasn't that hard to do, but then as the subjects changed it got harder and harder.

The subjects in this study where the basics of cels, what is in a cel, what is a cel doing, stuff like that, and that went into genetics. (like Mendel) from the genetics it went onto breeding. So we needed to study the male and female parts what they where doing, and what kinds of hormones are active during all the stages of the season of the bitch and the whelping etc.

I was very happy it then went into breeds!!! We needed to learn about 300 registed FCI breeds from a picture, know what their FCI group was and what their Original purpose was. I loved this!!!! I go to so many shows so I only needed to focus on really unknown dogs to me, lik…

Lucky unpacking the Snuffelbox

First of all, again a long delay in blogging, but I hope to get back on track again

This summer we got a great Snuffelbox again!! And there was a little competition going on. I had to film the unpacking of the box. And not me unpacking, but one of the dogs. I choose Lucky, because when I ordered this box I had to fill in a name of the dog, so I just randomly picked his name.

So Lucky needed to unpack this box, and I had to film it.

There where again some great nice goodies in this box
There was a lollypop, made from beef
a bag of chickenstrips
a supercool toy of a tropical bird, (with sound)
a chewy starfish, for dentalcare
coconut shavings
pet icecream powder (that was hard to make)
very nice box of Renske wet food
and a second toy!!! a sqeeky car

We already look forward to the next box!!!

Judging at dogshow-ringtraining

Last year, in December, yes I know a while back, I judged at the showtraining event of Dogshow-ringtraining Drouwenermond.

I was asked if I wanted to do judging of their last day of the training season, to make a nice ending of their trainingsyear.
Ofcoarse I'm not a real conformation Judge, but I have been intensively showing dogs since 2004, so I know how things are going in the showring.

So in december it was their end of the season, and my first ever judging apointment.
There where multiple groups of dogs and it really went just like a real dogshow, only I went over the dogs, not judging the dogs, but taking notice of their handler if they where doing the correct thing.
Showing me the bite of their dog, gaiting them and presenting them.

For every dog was made a judging report with points, so that was really curious for me too.
I was so focused on all aspects I didn't really know who was my nr 1 handler.

So when they calculated points I was just as curious as all the partic…

Woefbox May

Ofcourse there is a lot of spoiling going on here at Glamourace collies. At the animal event I bought another Woefbox for the furkids and again it is full of awsome great stuff.
Because I bought it at the animal event, I could choose my own kind of toy, wich is very handy because our pack just likes to destroy every toy they get. So I asked for a not so easy to destroy toy, and I must say it is a nice one. The animal event is now 2 weeks ago and the toy is still alive!!!

So what is in the box more?!

A trial package of dogfood, by a brand that is new to me,
the lettering on the package is not a great writing to me, so I think the brand
is called Orijen, but I'm not sure.
3 packages of Renske food!!! O my gosh, Anna loves this!!!!
a package of 4 beef sticks from Alhpa spirit, again a new brand to me
another can of wetfood also from the making of Orijen
a trial size of shampoo by greenfields
a great floss toy
Dog sushi!! great for showing
Chewy sticks
Chicken jerky, again great for…

Animal Event

As I've been writing earlier this week, we went to the Animal Event in Hilvarenbeek, last Sunday.
It is the most cool event for all animal lovers. There is something to do with almost all kinds of animals. From Alpaca to rabit, dogs cats, you name it. I was very Lucky to get free tickets, from a lady I train with at dogschool. But otherwise it is wel spent money.

I took Vivien and Judy with me, because I don't show them a lot at conformation so I wanted them to have some fun also.
We looked at demo's from Hoopers, search and rescue, dutch cell dogs, that was a project where people who are in jail are working with shelter dogs to teach the dogs some basic things so the dogs can go in their forever homes with a stabilized character!

Also we did our best in a labyrint contest. I had to walk through the labyrint and Vivien needed to find me as quick as possible, that was so much fun, and if she could jump, she would absolutely skip the whole labyrint and just jump to me.

There…

My new book of ideas, and I have it signed

This weekend, I've been to the Animal Event in Hilvarenbeek. It is a cool event with everything focusing on dogs, cats, donkey's, horseys, chickens, wel you name it. All kinds of animals.
As you can see on my blog I'm a big fan of doggames and puzzles, and there where many of those games for sale ofcoarse.
But even more cool, there where demo's by the team of Hersenwerk voor honden, (brainwork for dogs) and they showed how to make little fun games with ordinary stuff, you probably have at your own home.
We where a bit late, otherwise we could have been participates in the workshop, but there was just so much to see.
So when the demo was almost over I went to their tradestand and got into conversation with all the nice persons who are doing this.
I decided to get the book Hondenspellen, by Helen Hagestein, it contains 111 games you can make yourselve, I told this lady that Vivien is a master at doing games so she ensured me it would be a great succes.
Afterwards she si…

First post since long time

I'm so sorry........ It took me a loooong time to go back to blogging as you all can see. But that is because I'm extremely busy with most of the time dogstuff.
And I think that is a great thing, I have so many new funthings to blog about.
In march I have been to the National Specialty of the Collie Club of America again, and I had some great experiences there, I started of with Canicrossing!! I still need to get into my kickbike habit again, but ok.
I have some real cool books to tell you about, some awsome Sunnybank stuff. I'm 1 Snuffelbox, and 1 woefbox behind sceduele, so blogging on that also.

Yesterday I've been to the animal event, that is one of the coolest events in the Netherlands, and I have some nice inspiration for new fun games, and other exercise stuff.

And I may not forget I bought the replica skull of Ch. Fantasy's Bronze Talisman ROM, I will work on that with plasticine, trying to make a colliehead as close to the breedstandard as possible.

So tha…

Why I don't do dogfrisbee or fetch

I'm constantly trying new fun things to do with my dogs, but there is something I just never did with any of my dogs.
Go to the park to go play fetch, and dogfrisbee.
Why.....
Well first of all, it seems that the majority of collies doesn't want to fetch a bal. (Read, none of my collies ever wanted to fetch a ball) I have to say most of the time when I see such activity's I think wow cool, but it isn't really my cup of tea.

After reading a book about agility and injuries, I began thinking about other sports too.
I know my collies are a herding breed, and they need to be swift and agile, they have to turn and run around sheep, but that is way different then running after a bal in the park.

Over the years we people created all those particular dogbreeds for our own purposes and needs, and as the years passed, and also the coming of machines etc. dogs where not needed for that function anymore, we just keep them as company. That is awsome ofcourse, but the base of our dog…

World book day

It is #worldbookday today!!!! I just found out, but this is really a great idea. I looovvveee to read, and I'm one of the lucky girls who has a huge collection of great dogbooks.
Informational, stories, breedspecifik, but also on grooming and history.

Here is a little collage of some of my dogbooks. I will put reviews over here for sure!
The first one on the collage is a great book by Stella Clark, she is a breeder and conformation judge from the UK.
Next to that is the great book of Sunnybank home of Lad, nu nu favorite author Albert Payson Terhune. Going for the blue is a small fun book about dogshows and showing your dog, and last but not least Lassie!!! That one is probably 1 of the most wellknown dogbooks.
Reviews will come soon....
In the meantime I just gonna enjoy a good book!!!

Map my dogwalk

Last weekend I made a walk with my doggies using the dog walk app on my Phone, I recently blogged about this app, and what great fun it is.
But I found out it might be not a great tracking app at all.

Ofcourse it is a fun app, and you can log your walking, and take nice pictures, but last Saturday I was trying a new route and mapped that one out.

When I came home I was a bit dissapointed that it was only 1,5 km's, and I Always tought that this route was way further. The weather was gorgeous so we enjoyed ourselves, but I find it so cool to see what kind of route I make and how far it is.

On my previous Phone I had this app called map my dogwalk, so I installed it when I came home from my walk.

I tried it and you guess, I was right the route I made was more then only 1,5 km's it turned out almost 4 km's!!!!!

What is also big fun on this app is,  that it counts your calories aswel!!!!
And it tracks the right route.

You cannot take pictures from this app, but you can pause yo…

Walking with your dog!

Walking your dogs is great, it is one of the most easy and low impact exercise for the dogs, aswell for ourselve.
But we have to keep in mind that we don't overdo it.
I have a breed that doesn't stop, and it is not a great idea to lett them walk for ages in the weekends, to find out on Monday they have all kinds of sore's and injuries.
For instance their pads are cracked and open from a long walk on the Streets or they simply have muscle pain because you went to far.

Also with young animals, you can't be too carefull.
In my live with dogs we Always had the rule that a dogs can walk 5 times how old he is in months
so a puppy you get from a breeder is most of the time 8 weeks = 2 months, = 10 minutes exercise on a day!!!!!! So don't walk him 4 times a day for 10 minutes, spread that over the day.

I know that is less, but it will ruin his body if you overdo it. Bones of a young puppy are not developed yet every thing has to grow and needs all energie to grow.

Dog Breeding A Guide To Mating And Whelping

It has been a while since I did actually read a book or did a review on a book. My working and showing scheduele very busy, and I'm studying too, so reading a book, or writing about it is hard.
But this book is a great one for my study.
Dog Breeding, a guide to Matin and Whelping by Kay White.

It is a bit of an old book, as so many of the books I read, but a breeding is still do be done with a dog and a bitch, and puppies still have the same theorie of coming out so I find this a nice one.

Ofcourse my version is the Dutch translation, but that doesn't matter.
It is written in a very understandable language, somethimes those books are very technical and after a few pages you quit reading because it is too many terms.
But this one is a nice cross between technical stuff and still informational, even for a person who never bred a litter before.
It surely is very helpfull by my study, as I have to learn about hormones who are involved in the whole proces of breeding.

Love your Pet day

Today februari 20th is love your pet day!!!!!!
I'm a big believer that you should Always love your pet, and not only on special occasions.
But what can you do on a day like this.

Take your dog to a great new funplace to walk, and not stick to the same old route you're used to. It will be big fun for your dog to smell and explore the new places, remember dogs love that, it is kinda like their social media.
And for yourselve it is nice to, just to enjoy a new part of nature.

But when the wheater is terrible and you can't really go outside, a DIY game should be big fun,
I posted a nice tissuebox DIY game yesterday, but you can also hide treats in the house and go search with your furfriend.

Maybe you even have the time to teach your dog a new trick like fetch or high five. Or maybe you can spend more time on his grooming, (altough I don't think many dogs will appreciete washing)

Bake some cookies!!! Or buy a new toy, most fun thing is, to take your dog to the petstore an…

DIY braintrain game

I wanted to post something actionlike for Fit dog Friday,
but there is not a lot action when rain is pooring all the time. And this morning it was again slippery.  So when we go walking, I just walk very carefully, I don't lett my dogs go offleace because, I don't want them to fall or wathever.

Ofcourse I never, ever skip a walk with my dogs, but it just isn't such big fun when we have to take care where we walk. So on days I can't walk them properly I will exercise them a bit more on the treadmill and give them a game.

So today I will give my doggies a nice game so they can get their energie into something.

We luckily now also have the season of the flu and colds and things like that, and there are many tissues around, so I made  great game out of a tissuebox!!
Just put 2 cookies in it, and the fun can begin!!!!!

It is one of the most simple do it yourselve games!!! And it will keep the doggies busy for a while.

Tasty Tuesday

This weekend was valentines day and I found that a great day, to make something nice for my doggies. A while back at dogshow I bought a coockiecutter, in the shape of a collie/sheltie, but I never found the time to use it.

And when I bake for myself, I have to eat it all, so a dogbiscuit seemed a better idea.

For this coockies, you only need

2 eggs
250 grams of flower
1 tablespoon of oatmeal
1 can of tuna fish, waterbased

preheat your oven on 180Celcius

Mix all the ingredients, until you get a big ball of daugh, when that happens, roll it out, until it is almost 5mm's thick. Then you can cut out the cookies or make freehand style coockies.

Bake for 20/30 minutes and done!!!!
Easy peasy, and my dogs loved it!!!!

Westminster dogshow

Yay it was Westminster dogshow again, or was, it is. But my favorite breed the collie was on livestream earlier today.
I put the New York time in my Phone just to make sure I wouldn't mis a thing, so I totally managed all my other businesses around the time of the judging.

Tomorrow when I come out of bed I will check immediatly for the groupjudging!!
And I will cross my fingers for the rough collie the most ofcoarse, I like smooth, but I love rough!

While I was seeing those lovely collies it crossed my mind that my favorite author wrote about Westminster dogshow ones, in the book Lad a Dog, you can read a story of Lad being there, and if I'm right the mistress really disliked the idea that Lad had to stay on the show, even for the night.

In reality Lad never went to Westminster dogshow. Only 2 of Albert Payson Terhunes dogs went there, and only one time. That where Sunnybank Explorer and Sunnybank Sigurdsun in the year of 1923.

There is only 1 collie who ever managed to win W…

Very succesfull Valentine runway show

Wow still over the moon from Yesterday's great Valentine Runway show.
It was a show with the valentine theme and there was the dresscode, dress to impress, so there we went Anna and me, I had an extreme tight corset, so I was so glad all was over, but I managed, also the faux fur cape and the long skirt where not excellent handling clothing, but ok.

It was a show on a runway and in round 1 we had to go over the runway, one by one.
When we had our up and down, we had to stand in front of the judges table who where giving their points.
Anna and me gained on handling a 9 and an 8 our of 10
for exteriour we had a 8 and a 9 out of 10
and for styling we had a 10!!!!...!!! Then we had to go to round 2, by round 2 we had to go over the runway again but against another winner from round 1, and after the up and down we had to stand in front of the judges table with the other couple.
In round 2 there where 4 of the 5 judges who where choosing me to go trough to the half finals, and in the…

Purebred dog day

This morning on the internet I found out it is purebred dog day. I'm a breeder, not a big one, but I  am a breeder of purebred rough collies.
I do have nothing against rescue dogs, I think they deserve a loving home, and I bet there are many extreme sweet dogs that need a loving home.
But I can't help it, I love a beautifull breed, with it's history, the breedstandard and all.

As a breeder I had many many coarses on breedingtopics, about Genetics, Breeding and what to expect, Conformation, etc.
I read as many as I can about my breed, I go to conformation shows, I talk with breeders who have a long knowledge in the breed, and I talk to several vets, about health topics.

I hear many times bad things  about purebred dogs, but I know for sure that if a breeder is responsible for his breeding and takes his time in studying the pedigree, making health checks and so on, a pure bred dog is one of the most beautifull things on earth. We are as a breeder not allowed to breed with ge…

Three day Quote Challenge (Day 3)

The final day of my quote challenge, thanks again my furry friend of Dakota's Den to tag me.
I must say that the quote's where not the hardest part, but to challenge new people to do so.
But in this few days I triggered me to start reading more blogs myselve, and I really enjoy to do so.
So for today I will only tag 1 new person to place quotes for 3 days!

My final quote is again by Albert Payson Terhune, A dog is just a dog, but a collie is............ A Collie
I love that frase so much, and I can't really explain, maybe colliepeople just feel the same about it.

For the person I tag now for the last time,                                                                                                 There are three rules to this challenge, and they are:
1. Post for three consecutive days.
2. Choose and share one or three quotes each day.
3. Challenge three additional bloggers each day.

And I will Challenge  Its chewytime

I had a lot of fun doing this!!!!

Wordless Wednesday Valentine Blog hop

Ok, I know I typed wordless Wednesday, but I have a few words to ad to it!
This here is my baby Anna, next month she will be 3 years, and she has already some great conformation titles to her name, but she is still as kuddly as she was when she was this little ball of fluff.
This weekend Anna and me will compeet in a Valentine dogshow, so I need to be dressed to perfection, and Anna wil have to shine like a moviestar!!

In the meantime enjoy Anna's pic!!!

Three day Quote Challenge (Day 2)

Ok, there we go again!!! As I was yesterday, today I'm also posting a quote! I was tagged by my friend at Dakota's Den  I really have to say sorry to my virtual furry friend Dakota, that she is not a she, but actually a he, so sorry Dakota for turning you into a girl..

So here is my quote of today, There's Something delicious about writing the first few words of a story... You can never quite tell where they will take you.
Beatrix Potter

I Love the works of Beatrix Potter, and she is somehow kind of a hero to me, and she had a collie, some will say it's a border collie, but it is a collie.

Now on with the Challenge, I have to tag 3 new people!!

Now there is a challenge, because I just recently discovered the whole thing with following blogs, I just tag 1 for today, and try to find 1 for tomorrow!!

I tag today Murphy golden girl

There are three rules to this challenge, and they are:
1. Post for three consecutive days.
2. Choose and share one or three quotes each day.

Three Day Quote Challenge ( Day 1)

Oh my gosh, I just discovered the fact I can get followers on my blog, and I just recently started to follow people myselve, and now I'm already been tagged in a challenge!!!
I'm pretty exited that my friend of Dakota's Den challenged me.

She has a supercute blog, and I've been reading her post's since a couple of day's ( yes I'm sorry, I blog for over a year and now discover all sorts of thigs)
Dakota is a super sweet Sheltie and I like to read about her adventures.

Now on with this challenge thing,
I now have to post quotes for 3 days.

And my first quote must be Win Without Boasting, lose without excuse.
It is by my all time favorite author Albert Payson Terhune, it doens't really fit to me, because when I win at show with my dogs I like to boast!!! haha, but I know Terhune himself would do the same. But the lose without excuse, relates to me, everytime I do not get the award of Best of Breed or something else I know it is the Judge, and not the perfo…

Just like Lassie

Somethimes, or actually all the time, I get pretty anoyed when someone says to one of my dogs hey lassie. Or when people ask you what breed I have, they absolutely don't know what a rough collie is, and I'm ending up saying, a lassie dog, and they are like, ohhhh, but I know Lassie. But I'm affraid that my collies, are in some sort of way, just like Lassie.
When I look at Scarlett she does all those small things that remind me just like the movie/storiebook hero. When it was time for Joe to come out of school, Lassie would hurry and go run and sit at his usual spot outside school to wait for Joe.
And yes Scarlett does have some of those habits. Acording to my mom, she waits for me to come from work, she will sit in front of the window and go back and forth to the back door almost 5 minutes before I come home. And she does that every single day I go to work. And there is another habit she has, when I got Scarlett I made it a little game to go and get dad when he had to co…

Happy Birthday Scarlett and Winter Snuffelbox

Yesterday it was Scarlett's birthday, and it was pretty cool that my new winter Snuffelbox came in at the exact same day. Scarlett is now 7 years, but still as crazy as a puppy.
I love her so much, and now I could spoil her with our new treats and toys.
Normally I unpack the box first myself to check it out, but now Lucky's nose was already inside the box to sniff things out!!

So there where a lot of new nice thing in the box, and I must say I was pretty impressed with it, we already had a lot of fun with the ICuties ball, it is a ball, where you must insert cookies, and when the dogs roll with it, the cookies come out. it is really fun!!!

So what is inside the Snuffelbox this month!!!!
A box with sheepfat pads, with seaweed, it is for good skin and coat!! But beware, seaweed is terrible for blue merle coated dogs!!!!!! never ever give a blue merle collie or sheltie something with seaweed. Luckily we also have tri's so no problemo over here.

The ICuties snack attack …
